Cindy Amos

Cindy is synonymous with all that makes education a learning and caring profession. She first began working as an instructional assistant in the district’s preschool family literacy program and then served as a Child Development Associate teacher. Throughout this time, Cindy was working toward her degree in elementary education. Cindy says that she was always meant to be a teacher and therefore teaches from the heart, and she has demonstrated this by been an active and inspirational educator.

She currently teaches kindergarten at Lela Alston Elementary. Her classroom reflects her comprehensive knowledge of her curriculum and her high expectations of learning. Cindy not only has the heart for teaching but also teaches children with special needs and is an advocate for them in the school and in the community. In particular, she has been concerned with her students who are struggling to learn English. As a result, she pursued her Master’s Degree in the area of English Language Development and taught parents how to work with and support their children at home.

Cindy’s strengths are building positive and supportive relationships with her students as well as with their parents. She takes a special interest in each one of them, offering parenting workshops after school.

Cindy is not satisfied with how much she has accomplished and continues to seek positive growth. She attends workshops to seek new strategies for increasing her effectiveness in the classroom and as an educator. Cindy currently serves as a grade level representative and chairs several school committees. She has also been involved in the school’s national Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol and has offered for her teaching to be observed by numerous visitors.

Cindy’s passion for teaching has extended to her community. She has worked for several causes such as the district’s bond elections and voter participation. She is also involved with her church teaching Sunday school as well as sponsoring and teaching the confirmation program and speaking at the Cursillo Program. She has also become involved with the elderly community by singing and playing the guitar at the local neighborhood nursing home.

Cindy is certainly an extraordinary individual and teacher at Lela Alston Elementary.
